[Al-'Alim/The All aware/ The All-knowing]
"Surely your Lord, He is the All-creator, the All-knowing." ﴾15.86﴿
Allah's knowledge is comprehensive. It extends to everything seen and unseen, present and future, near and far, existing and non-existing, His knowledge precedes, and is the cause of, existence. "With Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them but He. He knows what is on the land and in the sea; not a leaf falls but He knows it. There is not a grain in the earth's shadows, not a thing, fresh or withered, but it is recorded in a glorious book. " ﴾6.59﴿
This divine name underscores Allah's perfect and all-encompassing knowledge. More remarkably, He also knows the unseen, including our secret thoughts and wrong doings committed by our eyes. As to the range of His knowledge, the Qur'ān informs: "He knows what penetrates into the earth and what goes forth from it.. Nothing escapes Him, not even the smallest particle in the heavens or the earth…" ﴾34:2-3﴿
He grants knowledge in varying degrees to His creatures. For gaining better and beneficial knowledge, we should pray to Him
because He is the source and provider of all knowledge. "Indeed, Allah [alone] has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted." ﴾31.34﴿
Allah's knowledge of the most secretive thoughts is a basic creed in Islam. It is the cause of individual integrity: "And know that Allah knows what is in your hearts, so be fearful of Him." ﴾2.235﴿
Compared to that, human knowledge seems insignificant. "You are not given from the knowledge but a little." ﴾17.85﴿
Allah is also called Allam (Much Knowing) and Alim (Knower). he is also the Muhit (Encompassing in knowledge) "Allah encompasses everything with His knowledge." ﴾65.12﴿
